The peaks of Pindari

 Pindari glacier is located at the heart of Kumaon and also at the base of Nanda devi, India’s highest peak. It’s easily and conveniently approached from the plains. It’s a gradual ascent to a height of 3600 mts and highly recommended for families with kids. Popularly known as Baby trek it’s gentle on knees. With excellent and varied forests and meadows, it offers enchanting views of the peaks surrounding Nanda devi sanctuary.

 Bageshwar is an important religious center in Kumaon and serves as a base from where the valleys of Pindar and Saryu can be explored, .Other famous Kafni and Sundardhunga glaciers can also be approached from here. It will take two hours from Kaaphal Hill home stay to reach Bageshwar.

Reaching Bageshwar from Railhead

Ranikhet Express leaves from Old Delhi station at 10.40 in the night. It will reach Kathgodam at around 6. 30 am. Kathgodam is the last train station and is in the foothills of Himalayas. Bageshwar can be reached by road from Kathgodam and is a 160 km drive.

Your guide will receive you at Bageshwar and after checking in the hotel will brief you about the trek to Pindari glacier.

Evening you can go for the local sight seeing and get a feel of the town. Baghnath mandir and the confluence of Sayu and Gomti rivers are well worth  paying a visit.

 Trek Itinerary

Day 1: Bageshwart to Kharkiya (5 hrs by Jeep), Kharkiya to Khati trek (4 km approx, 60 to 90 min). Camp at Khati.

Day 2: Khati to Dwali (13 km approx, 6 – 7 hrs)

Day 3: Dwali to Phurkiya ( 5 km, 2 – 3 hours)

Day 4:  Phurkiya to Pindari-Zero Point and back to Phurkiya (16 km approx – 7 hours)

Day 5: Phurkiya to Khati via Dwali (18 km – 7 – 8 hours)

Day 6: Khati to Kharkiya (4 km approx, 45 – 60 minutes), Jeep drive from Kharkiya to Bageshwar ( 5 hrs )


Other places to visit in and around Pindari valley

Day treks to Pankhwa top and Dhakuri pass. They offer panoramic views of snow peaks from Garhwal to Nepal Himalaya. Camp at these places for the best views of sunrise and sunset over the hills.

And longer treks to Sundardhunga and Kafni glaciers can be combined with Pindari glacier trek.

Another option is to cross into Saryu valley from Khati village via Pankhwa and  Jaiguni bugyal  and reach Bageshwar by a diffrent route.
